Being a parent is hard work.  Choosing to be obedient and follow God across the world, to raise your family and flesh out your faith in an impoverished nation, is a whole new sort of difficult. I’ve watched this precious family over the past several years, as they’ve navigated missionary life, tragedy, loss, grace and provision – and an unexpected… Read More

I met her through Instagram, drawn in by the incredible way she applied watercolor paint to paper – in both minute detail and broad sweeping strokes – and I stayed because of the vulnerability she wove throughout her words.  In a world that peddles superficiality, she is a refreshing change.  Her art woos you in, and her heart makes you sit… Read More

In a day and age where comparison and competition can drive us to isolate and hoard, there’s something incredibly refreshing about someone who uses their gifts and passions to stir up the gifts and passions in others.  Someone who faithfully serves and encourages and equips others with the very tools they’re using in their own field. Between her servant-hearted leadership, her passion for the… Read More

While I’d seen her name pop up several times on Instagram, and through our mutual involvement in The Influence Network, it wasn’t until I heard her share her story with Jamie on the Happy Hour podcast that I was undone by the thought of her.  People, I was wrecked.  Sitting in the Meijer parking lot, ugly-crying through her interview and ignoring my… Read More

I first connected with this sweet momma & maker through The Influence Network, and was struck by her wisdom and grace while listening to her share her story of heartache and struggle on the Feathers Podcast. She’s artistic, tender-hearted, has a fierce faith and quite possibly the best lips on the planet (just look at that smile). Meet Elise…     WHAT’S YOUR STORY,… Read More

I met this delightfully feisty human through my best friend when we were all in the throes of raising our toddlers, and just couldn’t get enough of her.  Needless to say, we grabbed her and roped her into a best-friend-triad, and continue to adore her socks off. She’s absolutely hilarious, so incredibly genuine, as gifted as all get-out, and has a knack… Read More

Paging through a family magazine almost a decade ago, I locked eyes on an ad for cute tees that celebrated marriage.  The “My Husband Rocks” anthem instantly sparked my interest, and I hurried off to figure out who these people were and how I could be a part of their mission. Flash forward several years and the woman behind the tees has become… Read More

I feel like I’ve known this gorgeous gal for ages – as Facebook tricks me frequently into thinking I know people better, and for longer, than I actually do. She gets giddy while talking about trees, will happily run to the corner store and buy deodorant for you if you’re speaking at her church and have absent-mindedly forgotten to apply said product (ahem), and is one… Read More

I encountered her first through Hope*Writers, and have since watched – rather awe-struck at times – as she’s leaned unabashedly into her passion and calling, courageously putting her heart out there, linking arms with other women as she’s led the charge. Her desire to run hard after God is refreshing.  But her willingness do so, bravely and imperfectly, is what has made all the difference. Meet Whitney…     WHAT’S YOUR… Read More

I’m not sure whether it was her love of Africa or the adorable tees she sells that first caught my attention, but this tender-hearted momma stood out from the crowd. She navigates the missionary life – one foot in the States and the other in Uganda – with passion and finesse, and manages to capture her journey so beautifully through word and picture. I first met this small package of dynamite back in 2002, when my then-fiance was introducing me to “his people”.  With a smile that lights up the room, and the most delightful freckles, this gal immediately caught my eye. Her commitment to allow her broken-heart-made-whole story to fuel her passion to unconditionally love the lost and lonely, through foster care, is both astonishingly beautiful and incredibly… Read More

I had heard of this talented gal – and had watched her perform (with her crazy-amazing voice and gorgeous curls) – long before I’d had the pleasure of meeting her in the flesh. Leaving her home state of Michigan to grow new roots in Florida, this wife and momma has a story of struggle and resilience that will inspire both hope and greater levels of intentionality in your… Read More

Then shame convinces us to hide.

But God’s first response to human failure wasn’t condemnation.
It was a question: "Where are you?"
Not because He didn’t know.
But because healing requires that we name where we are,
and freedom comes as we choose to bravely step out of hiding.

Why do we hide? Often it starts with something sma Why do we hide?
Often it starts with something small,
a moment of humiliation, rejection, or exposure.
And over time we learn how to protect ourselves.
We perform. We blend in. We build armor.

But long before any of our stories began,
God asked the first humans a question
that still echoes today: "Where are you?"

In this episode, I share a story from growing up in Namibia and explore the quiet ways shame can shape our lives, and the courageous invitation God extends to step out of hiding.
