A Bugalicious {Heart} Update

Our little Bug got to see his cardiologist this morning.  The one Cricket pretends to be 99.9% of the time they play doctor. {Side note: he weighs between 27 and 29 pounds, depending which scale you plop him on, and he’s a whopping 33 inches long.  At 15.5 months old.  That’s our boy!} His doc has given us the go… Read More

I Ate A Kit Kat

{begin mindless fodder} There.  I said it.  I did it.  I broke my sugar “boycott”.  70 days without sweets {minus my single, carefree anniversary cookie}, with about 30 more to go, and then this…a kit kat, in all it’s chocolate-coated-wafery goodness. I also haven’t shaved my legs for 2 weeks, just in case you wanted to know. {Sorry. You didn’t.}… Read More

Snot. Tissues. Benadryl. Repeat.

My precious hubby has blessed me with lots of opportunities to sleep a little more today.  He rocks my world. The wee babes are not well, and I’m not feeling spectacular either. So, in honor of all the snotty tissues laying around, and the fact that the Benadryl has once again been dug out of our medicine cabinet, let us… Read More

The Glorious Morning of Muffins

Because I’m addicted to muffins I wanted you to really be able to visualize the magnificence that is the Morning Glory Muffin, I’m doing somewhat of a repeat post. Aren’t I so thoughtful?  You don’t answer that.  Really. I shared this {favorite} recipe in June, but for some unknown reason only had phone-camera photos to share with you, which fall… Read More

The Scoop

My hubby and I started the Love & War marriage series at church last night.  We love being married.  We love marriage.  And we think everyone else should too.  This book {and DVD series} is so good.  You should read it. We then lost power late last night in a most magnificent display of lightning, thunder, wind and rain.  Our… Read More

Weapons of Mass Consumption

It occurred to me the other day, while placing an zucchini apple spice muffin on the gun on the counter, that I had to… Wait… what?  That’s weird? Well, I suppose I could have been considerate enough to put the muffin in a little baggie and stashed a little love note inside, but I was in a hurry and… Oh. … Read More

Health Rules!

For the latest on my 100 Days to Health, click here.  And if you’ve joined the madness adventure…how the heck are you doing? Speaking of health… I gave a talk to about 400 ladies over a period of 2 days {during my lean & fit *BC years} at Youth Haven Ranch for their “Ladies Day” about how vital it is… Read More

This is Juicy

My daughter has been drinking… this substance of out-of-this-world nutritious deliciousness. And that is exactly what is in it: carrots, apples, a chunk of ginger.  That’s it.  I decided it was time to dig our beloved juicer out from the depths of the “moldy pile” we’d left it in when unpacking our stinking storage unit into our new garage.  Here… Read More

My Sweet “t” on Day 2

I love behaving myself {in the sugar department, that is}.  It just makes me feel more alive and in control {you know, of the miniscule parts of my life that I actually have control over}.  Day 2 went well.  Just 98 to go.  Sheesh. Took the kiddos for a walk today.  Tomorrow I’m breaking out my 6 pound hula hoop. … Read More

100 Days to Healthy

Are you ready for this?  I so totally, completely and utterly am! 100 days, starting tomorrow and ending the day before Thanksgiving, without sugar, junk food, and countless cups of hot caffeinated bliss.  Don’t get me wrong…there will be caffeinated bliss …just in moderation.  But seeing I seem completely incapable of doing sugary foods in moderation, they’re getting chopped.  Completely. … Read More

Houston, we have Culture!

Walking through Meijer yesterday I stopped at the yogurt aisle and spent a moment reveling at the fact that I might never need to pour money into that creamy, coagulated goodness again. The thought makes my purse smile.  We shared a moment of silence as I bid farewell to the over-priced little cartons of activia and dannon, kicked up my… Read More

Permission Granted. In case you needed someone t Permission Granted.

In case you needed someone to tell you: yes, you should absolutely make the impromptu stop at the roadside farm stand and buy the $5 bouquet of flowers.

No, you do not need a reason.

No, you do not need to be buying them for someone else (although that is a perfectly lovely thing to do, too).

Buy them for yourself.
Put them in your kitchen.
Smile every time you walk past them. 🌸

And support your local flower growers and farm stands while you’re at it.

That is all.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled scrolling.

May you find people with whom you no longer need armor. And may you know, deep in your bones, that the God who fights for you is inviting you to rest...
not because you're weak, but because you were never meant to carry every battle alone.

Our expectations for peach season were high.

Turns out, that tree was throwing itself a retirement party.
It died the following year.

We’ve since planted two more. The one that has always been unproductive surprised us this summer with these gorgeous, generous peaches. The healthy, established tree that usually produces? One. Single. Peach.

Fruit-bearing is an interesting thing.
Unpredictable. Relatively unmanageable.
Sometimes delicious and sometimes disappointing.

And maybe that’s why I love the reminder it offers:
performance isn’t always a good indicator
of what’s happening beneath the surface.

Take heart, dear one.

Some seasons, you’ll crush the to-do list,
accomplish the goals and have plenty to show for yourself.

Other seasons, you’ll simply keep showing up.
Quietly. Consistently. Faithfully.

And that is enough, too. 🌱

This week on Oh, Good Grief, we're continuing in our Summer Enneagram Series by exploring the Type Eight: The Challenger.

Many Eights learned early that strength was safer than vulnerability.
But what if healing isn't about becoming less strong?

What if it's about discovering that courage
and tenderness were never meant to compete?

God isn't asking you to lay down your strength.
He's inviting you to lay down the armor you no longer need.

This week on Oh, Good Grief, as we continue in our Summer Enneagram series, we’re exploring Type 7: The Enthusiast - their gift of joy, the longing for freedom, and the ways we sometimes run from pain because it feels too heavy to carry.

Sevens remind us that hope matters.
That beauty still exists.
That tomorrow can hold something good.

But joy was never meant to require us to avoid sorrow.
The invitation isn't to become less joyful.
It's to discover a joy deep enough to hold the whole story.

This week on Oh, Good Grief, we're exploring the Enneagram 6: The Loyalist, their gift of preparation, the weight of uncertainty, and the journey from fear to trust.

Sixes are often the ones who ask the important "what if" questions,
notice the details, protect what matters, and stay when things get hard.

But sometimes the same voice that helps us prepare can keep us trapped.

Fear is a wonderful informant.
It makes a terrible leader.
