“Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”

Mary Oliver

WHO ARE YOU, REALLY?

Do you know?

Do you realize that it’s not only exciting to unearth your strengths, but it’s liberating to acknowledge your weaknesses.  It’s wildly inspiring to discover how you’re wired and who you’re truly knit together to be, and the journey is half the fun.

As I dig deeper into the wonderful world of Life Coaching, the more I realize that this basic level of self discovery is a crucial piece of the puzzle.

Discovering your unique personality, temperament, gifts, strengths and love languages are a great way to get to know yourself and intentionally make strides in pursuing your unique goals and dreams.  After all, how does one move forward when they don’t understand the ‘vehicle’ in which they travel, or the method and style of that movement?

Below are some free online tests that are not only fun, but enlightening and revelatory in nature.  I love reading results with a resounding…“yes! that’s totally me! Who knew I wasn’t the only one who processed life this way” or “no wonder I tend to respond to conflict that way!” or “why of course I gravitate towards that…it’s because I’m wired like this!”).

Please note that these ‘tests’ are not intended to be labels, nor are they attempts to shove you into a neat little category or box (we are far too complex and multi-dimensional for that).

• S.H.A.P.E.**

• The 3 Colors of Ministry (this requires sign-in and a small fee, but it is incredible insightful when it comes to identifying and developing your spiritual gifts)

*These personality tests are based on the Jung/Myers-Briggs style assessment.

Carl Jung characterized people using three criteria:

  • Extraversion vs. Introversion
  • Sensing vs. INtuition
  • Thinking vs. Feeling

Isabel Briggs Myers then added a fourth criterion:

  • Judging vs. Perceiving

This assessment results in the 16 personality/temperament types.

You’ll find that you get slightly different results from the different tests (and sometimes that’s due to not fully understanding the question, or answering from what you desire versus what you actually do), so I found that taking a few over a course of a few days allowed me to get a handle on the different types, narrow down the results, and really nail down my ‘type’.sunflower3-01-111413-2551

You may be interested to know that my hubby and I are complete opposites in this area (along with in our love languages…go figure).  I am an ENFP (‘words of affirmation’ and ‘acts of service’) girl, while he is an ISTJ (‘physical touch’ and ‘quality time’) guy.

Not only did taking these test together give us a fresh appreciation for how the other is wired/inclined, but it helps us not get caught up in banging heads over things that don’t really matter.  Repeat after me…”it’s not wrong, it’s just different“.

You’ll discover that knowing you’re different – on purpose – actually helps keep the peace and helps add weight and value to why you think and behave the way you do. It turns out opposites do in fact attract!

**S.H.A.P.E. is designed to explore the ‘Five Ways God Has Shaped You’:

S – Spiritual Gifts : What has God supernaturally gifted me to do?

H – Heart : What do I have passion for and love to do?

A – Abilities : What natural talents and skills do I have?

P – Personality : Where does my personality best suit me to serve?

E – Experiences : What spiritual experiences have I had? What painful experiences have I had? What educational experiences have I had? What ministry experiences have I had?

“Your ministry will be most effective and fulfilling when you are using your gifts and abilities in the area of your heart’s desire in a way that best expresses your personality and experience.”

Rick Warren

How's your internal monologue? Be brutally honest How's your internal monologue?
Be brutally honest here.

Are you actually kind to yourself?
Do you practice curiosity + compassion
when your emotions + responses catch you
off guard and feel oversized for the occasion?

Are you patient and gracious with your soul's
long + messy journey of growth and healing?

Are you gentle with your heart when you mess up?
Or, do you instantly shift to shaming + blaming?

Is self-loathing a constant (albeit unwanted)
companion who lingers in the corner just
waiting for an invitation to show up with
cruel words, gasoline and a match?

For many of us, if we talked to our dearest
friends the way we talk to ourselves...
well, we wouldn't have many.

Go ahead and read that again.
Let it sink in.

/ / /

Consider this a gentle reminder
to be tender with yourself.
Speak life to your own soul.
Always, always, always be kind.

We are never more like the enemy of our souls than
when we assume the role of accuser + condemner.

Catch every negative, shaming thought you have
and see if it aligns with how God sees you (and others).

If it isn't good, kind, hopeful, constructive, grace-laced and restorative, then it doesn't belong in your head + heart.

You are, after all, allowed to be both a mess and
a masterpiece...all at the very same time.

You are so loved.
Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty. But befo Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty.
But before the resurrection, there was a towel.

In John 13, just hours before the cross,
Jesus doesn’t assert power, He kneels.
He washes the feet of Peter.
He washes the feet of Judas.
He loves them to the end.

🎙️ Episode 017 | The Jesus Way is live.

What does it look like to choose love in the middle
of betrayal, grief, disagreement, and struggle?
The way of Jesus isn’t flashy.
 It’s faithful.

So very thankful for the life that came from his d So very thankful for the life
that came from his death.

May you know how wildly, wholly
and wonderfully you are loved…

“This is how much God loved the world:
He gave his Son, his one and only Son.
And this is why: so that no one need be
destroyed; by believing in him, anyone
can have a whole and lasting life.
God didn’t go to all the trouble of
sending his Son merely to point an
accusing finger, telling the world
how bad it was. He came to help,
to put the world right again.”

Boundaries are not the opposite of love. They are Boundaries are not the opposite of love.
They are often the evidence of it.

Jesus touched lepers.
He wept with friends.
He restored the broken.

But He also corrected boldly.
He withdrew intentionally.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.

You can forgive someone
without restoring immediate proximity.
You can love someone
without giving them full access to your life.

Love does not require unlimited access. In Episod Love does not require unlimited access.

In Episode 016 of Oh, Good Grief, we explore what Jesus
actually modeled when it comes to boundaries.

He loved everyone.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.
He was full of grace and truth.
He welcomed the crowds, but confided in the few.

In a world that demands access to our time, energy, and heart, this episode unpacks what it looks like to forgive without naivety, love without losing discernment, and practice grace with guardrails.

Healing after betrayal isn’t linear. It’s messy. Healing after betrayal isn’t linear.

It’s messy.
It’s exhausting.
And sometimes it feels impossible.

In this conversation, Lisa Devine shares what it actually looked like to rebuild a marriage after infidelity: the boundaries, the brutal honesty, the forgiveness that had to be chosen again and again.

But more than anything,
it’s a story about the quiet ways God shows up
when everything feels shattered.
