{Homemade} Granola

I’m addicted to granola.

Granola

Absolutely. and completely.  hooked.

But I’m not a fan of the price.

The solution?  I make my own.

And then eat ungodly healthy amounts of it with our homemade yogurt.  Bliss!

Granola Makings

{Divine} Granola

                Ingredients:

      • 12 cups of old fashioned oats
      • 1 1/2 cups of wheat bran
      • 1/2 cup of flax seeds
      • 1 cup of sunflower seeds
      • 1 cup of finely chopped almonds
      • 1 cup of finely chopped pecans
      • 1 cup of finely chopped walnuts
      • 1 cup of shredded coconut
      • 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
      • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
      • 1/4 cup of maple syrup
      • 3/4 cup of honey
      • 1 cup of vegetable/canola oil
      • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
      • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
      • 2 cups of raisins, chopped apricots and/or craisins

   Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 325*.  Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  • Combine the oats, wheat bran, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, nuts and coconut in a large {preferably, a massive} bowl.
  • Stir together the salt, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, oil, cinnamon, and vanilla in a saucepan.  Bring to the boil over medium heat, then pour over the dry ingredients, stirring well to coat.
  • Spread the mixture out evenly on the baking sheets and bake until crispy and toasted, about 20 minutes.  Stir once, halfway through, to ensure even baking.
  • Cool, then stir in the dried fruit, before storing in an airtight container.
  • Serve with yogurt and fresh fruit.

Granola bagged

Fabulous for parfaits, I find myself chowing on this in the dark hours of the night, when I should be sleeping.  but I’m eating.

And blogging.

Then shame convinces us to hide.

But God’s first response to human failure wasn’t condemnation.
It was a question: "Where are you?"
Not because He didn’t know.
But because healing requires that we name where we are,
and freedom comes as we choose to bravely step out of hiding.

Why do we hide? Often it starts with something sma Why do we hide?
Often it starts with something small,
a moment of humiliation, rejection, or exposure.
And over time we learn how to protect ourselves.
We perform. We blend in. We build armor.

But long before any of our stories began,
God asked the first humans a question
that still echoes today: "Where are you?"

In this episode, I share a story from growing up in Namibia and explore the quiet ways shame can shape our lives, and the courageous invitation God extends to step out of hiding.
