Everyday Blooms | Bethany Reed

I met this delightfully feisty human through my best friend when we were all in the throes of raising our toddlers, and just couldn’t get enough of her.  Needless to say, we grabbed her and roped her into a best-friend-triad, and continue to adore her socks off. She’s absolutely hilarious, so incredibly genuine, as gifted as all […]

Everyday Blooms | Latonya Esau

Paging through a family magazine almost a decade ago, I locked eyes on an ad for cute tees that celebrated marriage.  The “My Husband Rocks” anthem instantly sparked my interest, and I hurried off to figure out who these people were and how I could be a part of their mission. Flash forward several years and the woman […]

Everyday Blooms | Jennifer Swoish

I feel like I’ve known this gorgeous gal for ages – as Facebook tricks me frequently into thinking I know people better, and for longer, than I actually do. She gets giddy while talking about trees, will happily run to the corner store and buy deodorant for you if you’re speaking at her church and have absent-mindedly forgotten to […]

Everyday Blooms | Whitney Putnam

I encountered her first through Hope*Writers, and have since watched – rather awe-struck at times – as she’s leaned unabashedly into her passion and calling, courageously putting her heart out there, linking arms with other women as she’s led the charge. Her desire to run hard after God is refreshing.  But her willingness do so, bravely and imperfectly, is what has made all the difference. Meet […]

Everyday Blooms | Moriah Steiner

I’m not sure whether it was her love of Africa or the adorable tees she sells that first caught my attention, but this tender-hearted momma stood out from the crowd. She navigates the missionary life – one foot in the States and the other in Uganda – with passion and finesse, and manages to capture her journey so beautifully […]

Everyday Blooms | Carol Burns

I first met this small package of dynamite back in 2002, when my then-fiance was introducing me to “his people”.  With a smile that lights up the room, and the most delightful freckles, this gal immediately caught my eye. Her commitment to allow her broken-heart-made-whole story to fuel her passion to unconditionally love the lost and lonely, through foster care, is […]

Everyday Blooms | Amanda DeKatch

I had heard of this talented gal – and had watched her perform (with her crazy-amazing voice and gorgeous curls) – long before I’d had the pleasure of meeting her in the flesh. Leaving her home state of Michigan to grow new roots in Florida, this wife and momma has a story of struggle and resilience that will inspire both hope and greater […]

Everyday Blooms | Ali Grace

This sweet cow-huggin’, cookie-bakin’, math-teachin’ Alabama girl captured my heart early on during our mutual rendezvous with The Influence Network. Her honesty and vulnerability is both refreshing and convicting, and her story hope-stirring. Meet Ali… WHAT’S YOUR STORY, MORNING GLORY? I grew up in a wonderful Christian home, but it wasn’t until I met the end of […]

Everyday Blooms | Zena Neds-Fox

I met this word-loving wife and mom, what feels like a million years ago, when my mum and I were speaking at a women’s retreat. Her and I connected on campfire benches and bonded over our mad love for writing.  I was immediately struck by her quiet strength and raw, gritty love for Jesus and her people. Meet Zena… […]

Everyday Blooms | Heidi Short

This sweet gal and I actually go back about 30 years, all the way to St. George’s School in Windhoek, Namibia. We reconnected several years ago through Facebook, but have grown closer over the past 3 years as we’ve worked together on my books (she’s been an incredible editor and encourager – who also happened to help Deborah Kirsten with her […]

The stories we tell about ourselves often begin be The stories we tell about ourselves often begin
before we know we’re telling them...
in childhood, where identity is still forming
and belonging can feel uncertain.

This week, I sit down with my friend Tiana Hawver as she shares her story of adoption, trauma, and the ache of rejection that shaped how she saw herself for years.

This one is tender. Honest.
And deeply needed.

It’s the opposite of fear.

We live between Friday and Sunday,
and most of life feels like Saturday.
Tension is not failure.
It’s formation.

If you’ve been chasing happiness
and feeling weary...
this episode might steady you.

One year ago today, I drove 90 mph to an emergency One year ago today,
I drove 90 mph to an emergency room,
wondering if I would walk into that room
as a worried wife…
or a widow.

Another valley of despair.
Another encounter with a good, faithful God.

My update from that week still holds:

"I never imagined my shaky thumbs would be typing words like stroke, NeuroTrauma ICU, or brain surgery in reference to my healthy, 44-year-old husband.
And yet…this is where we find ourselves.
We’ve been brought to our knees—again.
But, as we’ve come to understand…
our knees are a good place to be.
Nestled in the palm of God’s hand..."

///

And today, we continue to stand amazed,
at God’s kindness to us,
and at the gift of our people:
our community, our family, our friends,
who have carried us in ways we will never be able to repay.

Looking at my handsome guy today,
strong, fully recovered, and back to work since October,
apart from the six-inch scar up the back of his head,
you’d never know a massive stroke almost took his life.

So we mark today with gratitude.
I hereby dub April 23rd:
Joe’s Stroke of Grace Day ✌

///

“When you’re in over your head,
I’ll be there with you.
When you’re in rough waters,
you will not go down.
When you’re between a rock and a hard place,
it won’t be a dead end…”

Happiness is a moving target. Joy is not. In toda Happiness is a moving target.
Joy is not.

In today’s episode, I share a story about a farmer
who trusted the wrong reference point,
and plowed his entire field crooked.
Maybe the reason we’re exhausted isn’t because we’re failing.
Maybe we’ve been fixing our eyes on something that keeps moving.

This conversation isn’t about faking joy.
It’s about cultivating it, in grief, in tension,
in the hidden places where roots grow.

What if addiction isn’t the root, but the symptom? What if addiction isn’t the root,
but the symptom?

What if beneath the behavior
there’s pain that’s never been named?

This week’s conversation is about
truth, trauma, and the slow work of healing.

And the kind of redemption
only God can write.

they unravel everything you thought was true.

This week, I sit down with trusted counselor and dear friend, Carol Boothroyd, to talk about a subject that’s common, but often left unspoken: sex addiction, betrayal, and the kind of healing that doesn’t happen overnight.

This one is tender.
Honest.
And full of hope.

If you’ve ever felt the disorientation of broken trust…
you are not alone.
