No Place Like Home {8 x 10 Printable}

We love to travel. Everything from our 2 week road-trip extravaganza with our kidlets this summer, to the 5 weeks my hubby and I spent gallivanting across Southern Africa several years back. But coming home, sleeping in our bed and relaxing in our own space, is always the cherry on top. Because no matter how much glamour we experience during… Read More

Change {is in the Air}

I love the change of seasons here in Michigan, and I happen to adore Autumn the most.  The crispness in the air, the unearthing of blue jeans and sweaters, and the thought of delicious soups and chilis simmering away in the crock pot just add to the joy. I love it! The smell of change is hanging thickly in the… Read More

Bug Goes to School! {Recipe & School Printable}

And, clearly, he’s ready for it. Our Bean starts Kindergarten today, and little Bug will be going to preschool twice a week.  To say he is excited would be an outrageous understatement.  Since getting his “poop in a group” – if you follow my drift – he’s been asking frequently when the beloved transition would begin. The day has arrived,… Read More

Ek-spek-tey-shuhn {take 2}

Real friendships bring out the best in you.  And, if they’re truly authentic connections with quality human beings, they will undoubtedly bring out the worst. I’ll never forget the time my best friend and I sat, puffy-eyed and frustrated, on opposite ends of my loveseat, allowing our disappointment in each other to bubble to the surface and our emotions to… Read More

Happy Birthday, sweet Bean!

Today you turned four. Even though you told your auntie ‘Poo’, who called all the way from South Africa this afternoon, that you were “something like 15 now”…you’re actually four.  You’re starting preschool this Fall!  And using words like ‘condensation’ and ‘moisture’ in everyday sentences. I haven’t quite figured out how you got here so fast.  ‘Tis true what ‘they’… Read More

Prayer Request for my {baby} Sister

I interrupt your regularly scheduled lame blog post – about lemon pie – to bring you this rather important prayer request for my sweet sister who, to put it mildly, has had an eventful day in Botswana… My delightful {ambitious, intelligent, hard-working, compassionate} baby sister has been teaching, preaching and volunteering in Kigali, Kenya and Gaborone, Botswana for the past… Read More

Erma & Martha, the Exchange

{I heard these letters between Martha Stewart and Erma Bombeck read at the Ladies Day I spoke at in April…and loved them!  I haven’t the foggiest notion who to credit, so if you know…drop me a line so I can give credit to this most brilliant lass} Hi Erma, This perfectly delightful note is being sent on paper I made… Read More

…from all semblance of self-control, whatsoever. I mean, just look at this cake!  Who, in the presence of this scrumptious hunk of fruity, cream-cheesy goodness, would be able to maintain any sense of composure and dietary dignity?  Not I, my friend, not I. Especially when it has your name written in blueberries on it.  It’s like a blue invitation to… Read More

Meet Marley {Mae}

Meet the newest addition to our family…Marley Mae!   She was a precious gift from a precious family…and we’re smitten.  Even one day into our adventure with her. She’s delightfully affectionate, ridiculously well behaved, and deliciously sweet! {swoon} Welcome, Marley Mae, we’re absolutely thrilled to have you!   {who knew an admittedly non-dog-person could so fast become a pup-lover?}

My Hacker Man and The Historical Village

In case you missed it {or thought maybe I had vanity issues and liked to talk about myself in the third person}…my husband hacked my blog yesterday.  He actually hacked it.  Compliments of Live Writer. As a birthday surprise, none the less. He informed me, only minutes after I woke up…and minutes before he passed out {he works nights}, with… Read More

Permission Granted. In case you needed someone t Permission Granted.

In case you needed someone to tell you: yes, you should absolutely make the impromptu stop at the roadside farm stand and buy the $5 bouquet of flowers.

No, you do not need a reason.

No, you do not need to be buying them for someone else (although that is a perfectly lovely thing to do, too).

Buy them for yourself.
Put them in your kitchen.
Smile every time you walk past them. 🌸

And support your local flower growers and farm stands while you’re at it.

That is all.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled scrolling.
If you are an Eight, my prayer is that you would n If you are an Eight, my prayer is that you would
never lose your fierce love for justice, your courage,
or your willingness to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Those are holy gifts.

But may you also discover the freedom of being protected yourself.
May you find people with whom you no longer need armor. And may you know, deep in your bones, that the God who fights for you is inviting you to rest...
not because you're weak, but because you were never meant to carry every battle alone.
The year we moved into this house, a peach tree sp The year we moved into this house, a peach tree spoiled us thoroughly. It produced more peaches than we knew what to do with—cobbler, galette, crumble, smoothies, fruit leathers, and basket loads given away.

Our expectations for peach season were high.

Turns out, that tree was throwing itself a retirement party.
It died the following year.

We’ve since planted two more. The one that has always been unproductive surprised us this summer with these gorgeous, generous peaches. The healthy, established tree that usually produces? One. Single. Peach.

Fruit-bearing is an interesting thing.
Unpredictable. Relatively unmanageable.
Sometimes delicious and sometimes disappointing.

And maybe that’s why I love the reminder it offers:
performance isn’t always a good indicator
of what’s happening beneath the surface.

Take heart, dear one.

Some seasons, you’ll crush the to-do list,
accomplish the goals and have plenty to show for yourself.

Other seasons, you’ll simply keep showing up.
Quietly. Consistently. Faithfully.

And that is enough, too. 🌱

was never meant to become a hiding place?

This week on Oh, Good Grief, we're continuing in our Summer Enneagram Series by exploring the Type Eight: The Challenger.

Many Eights learned early that strength was safer than vulnerability.
But what if healing isn't about becoming less strong?

What if it's about discovering that courage
and tenderness were never meant to compete?

God isn't asking you to lay down your strength.
He's inviting you to lay down the armor you no longer need.

This week on Oh, Good Grief, as we continue in our Summer Enneagram series, we’re exploring Type 7: The Enthusiast - their gift of joy, the longing for freedom, and the ways we sometimes run from pain because it feels too heavy to carry.

Sevens remind us that hope matters.
That beauty still exists.
That tomorrow can hold something good.

But joy was never meant to require us to avoid sorrow.
The invitation isn't to become less joyful.
It's to discover a joy deep enough to hold the whole story.

This week on Oh, Good Grief, we're exploring the Enneagram 6: The Loyalist, their gift of preparation, the weight of uncertainty, and the journey from fear to trust.

Sixes are often the ones who ask the important "what if" questions,
notice the details, protect what matters, and stay when things get hard.

But sometimes the same voice that helps us prepare can keep us trapped.

Fear is a wonderful informant.
It makes a terrible leader.

The invitation isn't to become fearless.
It's to discover the One who walks with us through every unknown.
