Snot. Tissues. Benadryl. Repeat.

My precious hubby has blessed me with lots of opportunities to sleep a little more today.  He rocks my world. The wee babes are not well, and I’m not feeling spectacular either. So, in honor of all the snotty tissues laying around, and the fact that the Benadryl has once again been dug out of our medicine cabinet, let us… Read More

It’s A {Frog} Wrap

The lovely {brilliant, creative, beautiful} momma behind Second Nature Baby Wraps {who just happens to be one of my all time favorite people} knocked my socks off when she custom created a wrap for me to “wear” my son after he was born.  {It’s an absolute life-saver when you have a toddler to chase} While still in utero, my sweet… Read More

I Don’t Know About A Cabana Boy…

But it would appear I have a wild-about-the-outdoors, rough-and-tumble Cabela Boy on my hands. When he’s not riding on the tractor or working in the man cave with his daddy, enjoying leaves and dirt for their unique tactile qualities, playing with his cars and making engine noises, or mounting something unstable and destined for disaster…he’s hammering something breakable with something… Read More

The Story of Us

If you’ve sat in our living room and looked out our bay window, you have most likely spotted them; 3 exquisitely unique sculptures that tell the story of “us”. Meticulously crafted from chucks of black soapstone and serpentine, and gathered from 3 completely different places at different stages of our journey, these sculptures depict the progression of our lives. A… Read More

A Cider Mill Morning

We spent Saturday morning with a few of our favorite people, soaking up the sunshine at Uncle John’s Cider Mill. Where better to spend these final few days of gorgeous late-Summer-early-Autumn weather than here, sipping cider and eating donuts, playing, having a wagon ride and picking up pumpkins {not to mention my new, sweet little niece}? When I told Cricket… Read More

The Wild, The Wacky, The Wonderful

…we got to experience it all at the Saginaw Zoo. Well, not all.  But you know, we worked through our disappointment {over no lions, or tigers, or bears…oh my}. What we did score out of the deal was a delicious morning of adventure with our new friends, a yummy picnic lunch, and 4 {relatively} well-behaved toddlers enjoying the gloriously warm,… Read More

What might you be able to create from a random, cast-off chunk of wood found laying outside the man cave, you ask? {I know, you didn’t ask.  But work with me here} Why…a high-tech, state-of-the-art woodular phone, of course!     No matter how absorbed you may be in your coloring project, your pretty pink phone will zap you out… Read More

Fall{ing} 4 Friendship

I love watching my daughter’s friendships blossom.  The older they get, the more it seems they appreciate those sweet bonds that have formed with other little people their age.  And the more sweetly and intimately they connect.  And – sweet relief – the less they pout, shriek and hoard. It seems they truly start to love each other, miss each… Read More

How's your internal monologue? Be brutally honest How's your internal monologue?
Be brutally honest here.

Are you actually kind to yourself?
Do you practice curiosity + compassion
when your emotions + responses catch you
off guard and feel oversized for the occasion?

Are you patient and gracious with your soul's
long + messy journey of growth and healing?

Are you gentle with your heart when you mess up?
Or, do you instantly shift to shaming + blaming?

Is self-loathing a constant (albeit unwanted)
companion who lingers in the corner just
waiting for an invitation to show up with
cruel words, gasoline and a match?

For many of us, if we talked to our dearest
friends the way we talk to ourselves...
well, we wouldn't have many.

Go ahead and read that again.
Let it sink in.

/ / /

Consider this a gentle reminder
to be tender with yourself.
Speak life to your own soul.
Always, always, always be kind.

We are never more like the enemy of our souls than
when we assume the role of accuser + condemner.

Catch every negative, shaming thought you have
and see if it aligns with how God sees you (and others).

If it isn't good, kind, hopeful, constructive, grace-laced and restorative, then it doesn't belong in your head + heart.

You are, after all, allowed to be both a mess and
a masterpiece...all at the very same time.

You are so loved.
Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty. But befo Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty.
But before the resurrection, there was a towel.

In John 13, just hours before the cross,
Jesus doesn’t assert power, He kneels.
He washes the feet of Peter.
He washes the feet of Judas.
He loves them to the end.

🎙️ Episode 017 | The Jesus Way is live.

What does it look like to choose love in the middle
of betrayal, grief, disagreement, and struggle?
The way of Jesus isn’t flashy.
 It’s faithful.

So very thankful for the life that came from his d So very thankful for the life
that came from his death.

May you know how wildly, wholly
and wonderfully you are loved…

“This is how much God loved the world:
He gave his Son, his one and only Son.
And this is why: so that no one need be
destroyed; by believing in him, anyone
can have a whole and lasting life.
God didn’t go to all the trouble of
sending his Son merely to point an
accusing finger, telling the world
how bad it was. He came to help,
to put the world right again.”

Boundaries are not the opposite of love. They are Boundaries are not the opposite of love.
They are often the evidence of it.

Jesus touched lepers.
He wept with friends.
He restored the broken.

But He also corrected boldly.
He withdrew intentionally.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.

You can forgive someone
without restoring immediate proximity.
You can love someone
without giving them full access to your life.

Love does not require unlimited access. In Episod Love does not require unlimited access.

In Episode 016 of Oh, Good Grief, we explore what Jesus
actually modeled when it comes to boundaries.

He loved everyone.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.
He was full of grace and truth.
He welcomed the crowds, but confided in the few.

In a world that demands access to our time, energy, and heart, this episode unpacks what it looks like to forgive without naivety, love without losing discernment, and practice grace with guardrails.

Healing after betrayal isn’t linear. It’s messy. Healing after betrayal isn’t linear.

It’s messy.
It’s exhausting.
And sometimes it feels impossible.

In this conversation, Lisa Devine shares what it actually looked like to rebuild a marriage after infidelity: the boundaries, the brutal honesty, the forgiveness that had to be chosen again and again.

But more than anything,
it’s a story about the quiet ways God shows up
when everything feels shattered.
