The Help

I love that there are occasionally ‘jobs’ that I dread doing…that I know a certain someone will adore pulling off. Seasoning the cast iron tea kettle, for instance… It started slow.  The reticent, one-fingered application. She, much like her mother, is not fond of dirty hands. Apparently grease is in a class of it’s own. The next time I glanced… Read More

How To Keep A Toddler Boy Busy…

for ten whole minutes:   Strap on a backpack.  Preferably a monkey.  Only because it’s fun to say they have a “monkey on their back”.  But, maybe you get out more than I do. Latch the top buckle.  Let him latch the lower one.  When you hear a shriek of delight, simply unlatch. Occasionally you may hear other shrieks.  Simply… Read More

A Whole Lot of Nothing Much

We’ve been busy around here: I have, for the second time in my short life {okay fine…for the 2nd time in 3 short months}, deleted everything on our DVR.  Every.single.thing.gone.  Just because I was trying to delete a single episode of Dinner: Impossible.  It’s a good thing my husband really loves me {and forgives quickly}. But seeing this is a… Read More

New Year’s Revolutions

This might possibly be the first time I’ve crossed over the threshold of a new year without being armed with an extensive list of new year’s resolutions. I’m all about new. And I quite fancy intentional change. {Because I’m ever in need of it} But this year…I just wasn’t feeling it. {I am, however, beginning to feel the after-effects of… Read More

Ode to Bambi

I interrupt your regularly scheduled blog post to bring you this absolute mind-numbing nonsense… While on this marital tilt-a-whirl ‘Tis true, I have become a country girl He wooed this city girl and now I can’t see my neighbors…but maybe a cow? I’ve now grown 2 humans and vegetables…bliss! {Isn’t there a super-hero cape for this?} But the part that… Read More

15 {Potentially Awkward} Things…

You probably don’t know about me.                     {and quite possibly, don’t want to} I think sweaty feet smell like buttered popcorn {which, needless to say, I don’t care for}, and belly-button “jam”, like parmesan cheese {which, disturbingly enough, I do enjoy}. I really want a tattoo.  I’m just far too chicken to go through with it, which is odd… Read More

I decided late last night that it was time to get my own domain name. Not because my little blog is working magic in the blogosphere or any reason remotely that extravagant, but simply because I’m tired of typing .blogspot.com. I’m lazy like that. I had grandiose plans, I tell you. Until I discovered I was too late.  Simplybloom.com was… Read More

Worship and lament were never meant to cancel each Worship and lament were never meant to cancel each other out.
They can — and often do — live side by side.
And the kind of worship that rises in the midst of pain
is a costly, sacred offering God treasures.

it’s remembering who God is, even when it isn’t.
It rarely changes our circumstances,
but it always changes our perspective.

What could shift in you
if you praised God for even one thing
you’ve been tempted to complain about?

🎙️ Episode 3 of Oh, Good Grief | The Podcast is live.

In this week’s episode, The Sound of Surrender, we’re talking about what happens when we worship through the wilderness, and the way gratitude reshapes our view of God, of ourselves, and of the desert we’re walking through.

God is never careless with the pruning knife. If H God is never careless with the pruning knife.
If He allows something to fall away, we can trust His heart,
that it is ultimately for our good,
and for His glory.

Sometimes God prunes what is still alive. Not beca Sometimes God prunes what is still alive.
Not because He is cruel, but because He is kind.

It’s unbelievably hard to walk away from something that was once deeply fruitful. But when a season ends and God lifts His grace from that role, relationship, or project, lingering often hurts far more than leaving.

Trust His heart for you in the pruning. 🌱
He cuts with purpose, and always with love.

I stumbled across the word I chose and lettered fo I stumbled across the word I chose and lettered for 2023. Held. I thought it might reopen old ache. Instead, it reminded me of the deeper song beneath our hardest seasons: even in the unraveling, we were held.

And as a new year unfolds, that truth feels like a steadying hand.

Here’s to beginnings that hum with mercy...
sunrises, blankets of white snow,
seasons turning quietly toward hope.

Dream bravely.
Plan loosely.
Take the next small step.
Try again.

Be tender with yourself.
Honor the slow work of becoming.
And step into this year knowing—
you are held.
As we stand on the edge of a new year, remember th As we stand on the edge of a new year, remember this:
God doesn’t prune to prove a point;
He prunes to produce fruit.

Trust the precision and the heart
of the Master Gardener.

What felt like loss this past year
may have been His clearing away of the old
to make room for the new.
