Paisley & Sugar

Oh yes…there’s more!

Paisley Cookies (4 of 1)

Whitney Baby Shower blogWhile I realize I don’t write an actual foodie blog, there is just no denying that I’ve been bitten by the baking bug lately.

I just can’t seem to get enough of making sugar pretty and colorful.

So I’m dragging you along with me for the ride {good thing photos are calorie free, eh?”}

Next sugar cookie fancy…paisley!

It all started with a baby shower invitation I designed a few weeks ago…green and pink paisley…for a momma with a baby girl named…wait for it, “Paisley”…in her belly.

Yes, I contributed a fair amount of delighted maternal cooing when I made the connection too.  What a lovely name!

I was secretly hoping to break out my recently purchased squeeze bottles and the remainder of the royal icing chilling in the fridge and spread this theme on a fresh batch of cookies when the request came… “I saw the “henna tattoo” ones you did for your sister and they were incredible…and I was thinking how cute it would be to have a couple of the paisley prints reproduced on cookies”.

{insert heavenly beams of light and angelic Hallelujah Chorus melodies here}

Oh, baby!  Pick me, pick me!

P Cookies start (1 of 1)

So I whipped those bad boys out of my baking cupboard {you’ll find the fabulous little squeeze bottles with coupler tips right here}, a myriad of Wilton tips {1,2, 3 & 4 – the larger ones for flooding, and the smaller ones for outlining and detail work}, and the new Americolor gel coloring I acquired during the feeding of this new frenzy {I scored mine at Hobby Lobby for half off, thank you very much!}.

I must confess…I thoroughly enjoyed the hours {ahem} it took to pull this off!  There’s a very good chance little Bug watched more Wild Kratts than the average day at our household provides during the making of these cookies.  Bean avoided the mass brain numbing session by positioning herself nicely at preschool that day.  Lucky duck.

What’s next, you wonder?  I may have something fun and mildly adventurous up my sleeve for my hubby’s birthday this weekend.  Just maybe.

Or maybe I’ll take on these little suckers one day.  Scroll to the bottom.  Ahem.

{2013 Update: we have, over the past few months, cut artificial food coloring out of our diets…but these cookies still make me smile!}

Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty. But befo Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty.
But before the resurrection, there was a towel.

In John 13, just hours before the cross,
Jesus doesn’t assert power, He kneels.
He washes the feet of Peter.
He washes the feet of Judas.
He loves them to the end.

🎙️ Episode 017 | The Jesus Way is live.

What does it look like to choose love in the middle
of betrayal, grief, disagreement, and struggle?
The way of Jesus isn’t flashy.
 It’s faithful.

So very thankful for the life that came from his d So very thankful for the life
that came from his death.

May you know how wildly, wholly
and wonderfully you are loved…

“This is how much God loved the world:
He gave his Son, his one and only Son.
And this is why: so that no one need be
destroyed; by believing in him, anyone
can have a whole and lasting life.
God didn’t go to all the trouble of
sending his Son merely to point an
accusing finger, telling the world
how bad it was. He came to help,
to put the world right again.”

Boundaries are not the opposite of love. They are Boundaries are not the opposite of love.
They are often the evidence of it.

Jesus touched lepers.
He wept with friends.
He restored the broken.

But He also corrected boldly.
He withdrew intentionally.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.

You can forgive someone
without restoring immediate proximity.
You can love someone
without giving them full access to your life.

Love does not require unlimited access. In Episod Love does not require unlimited access.

In Episode 016 of Oh, Good Grief, we explore what Jesus
actually modeled when it comes to boundaries.

He loved everyone.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.
He was full of grace and truth.
He welcomed the crowds, but confided in the few.

In a world that demands access to our time, energy, and heart, this episode unpacks what it looks like to forgive without naivety, love without losing discernment, and practice grace with guardrails.

Healing after betrayal isn’t linear. It’s messy. Healing after betrayal isn’t linear.

It’s messy.
It’s exhausting.
And sometimes it feels impossible.

In this conversation, Lisa Devine shares what it actually looked like to rebuild a marriage after infidelity: the boundaries, the brutal honesty, the forgiveness that had to be chosen again and again.

But more than anything,
it’s a story about the quiet ways God shows up
when everything feels shattered.
