{No Sew} Tutu Tutorial

tutu tutorialBean in tutu

What you’ll need:

      • * 4-5 yards of tulle (depending on waist size) in whatever colors your heart desires!
      • * thick elastic head band (adult size)
      • * 1 yard of satin ribbon (or 3 yards, if not using elastic for band)
        * ruler or measuring tape
      • * scissors
      • * delightful friends for delicious company (not necessary, but highly recommended)

C-tutuB-tutu

This DIY project takes anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes (depending on how much you gab).

  • Measure your child’s waist, and either use a long strip of ribbon for the entire tutu (as shown on this video) or use an elastic headband (making sure it isn’t too tight on their little waist).  We cheated, in the no-sew department, and had our hosting momma sew some elastic together for us as we had no headbands with us and didn’t want to ‘waste’ ribbon.  It’s your choice!
  • Tulle: the softer the better!  Roll your tulle into long ‘tubes’, being careful to keep it smoothed out and the edges lined up.  Then carefully cut the long tube into shorter 3 inch pieces (see video).

tulle strips

Unroll your tulle ‘tubes’, and depending on the length of tutu you’re wanting, cut the strips in half or thirds (for a shorter/baby tutu).  Or leave the strips full length for a long, “hot mama” tutu {va va voom!}.

  • Once tulle is all cut (keeping the different colors separate helps speed things along), stretch your elastic over a chair back, or if you’re limber, your legs.
  • Using slip knots, tie your tulle onto your elastic.

  • Spice it up: add some strips of glittery tulle, or even throw in some long, thin pieces of ribbon for extra pizzazz.

slip knot 2

  • Once all your strips are tied on, check that they’re evenly spread out on your elastic and angle cut the edges if you want more of a pixie look to you tutu.

  • Lastly, decide where you want your bow and either tie it straight onto the elastic or use a safety pin to attach it {this way, if you’re fickle like me and like to change things up…frequently, you can easily switch out the ribbon whenever you choose}.

Voila!

A no-sew, no-fuss, sew-cute tutu for your table-jumping, sky-scraper-leaping super girl!

it’s remembering who God is, even when it isn’t.

if you praised God for even one thing
you’ve been tempted to complain about?

Sometimes God prunes what is still alive. Not beca Sometimes God prunes what is still alive.
Not because He is cruel, but because He is kind.

It’s unbelievably hard to walk away from something that was once deeply fruitful. But when a season ends and God lifts His grace from that role, relationship, or project, lingering often hurts far more than leaving.

Trust His heart for you in the pruning. 🌱
He cuts with purpose, and always with love.

I stumbled across the word I chose and lettered fo I stumbled across the word I chose and lettered for 2023. Held. I thought it might reopen old ache. Instead, it reminded me of the deeper song beneath our hardest seasons: even in the unraveling, we were held.

And as a new year unfolds, that truth feels like a steadying hand.

Here’s to beginnings that hum with mercy...
sunrises, blankets of white snow,
seasons turning quietly toward hope.

Dream bravely.
Plan loosely.
Take the next small step.
Try again.

Be tender with yourself.
Honor the slow work of becoming.
And step into this year knowing—
you are held.
As we stand on the edge of a new year, remember th As we stand on the edge of a new year, remember this:
God doesn’t prune to prove a point;

Trust the precision and the heart

What felt like loss this past year
may have been His clearing away of the old
to make room for the new.
