Play Make-Up for Little Ladies

 Make-Up Title

To wrap up the estrogen fest that has been my blog during my daughter’s birthday week…I present you with this super-easy, slightly-nasally-offensive tutorial {aren’t I sweet?}.

Around the time my daughter turned 2, she started getting more eager to apply make-up alongside mommy in the mirror.  And while the thought of primping with her at my side delights me…the thought of real make-up on her sweet, little face makes me want to cry.  Not quite wail, but you know that whole “growing up too fast thing” that causes your momma-heart to ache a little?

Yeah, that.

Make-up + toddler = {messy} tragedy

So when my desperate search for pretend make-up kept coming up short {and boy did I hunt…ebay, online searches, in stores, etc.}, it was clear I was going to have to get creative.

Oh, happy day.

Creative projects just get my goat.

And float my boat.

Or something.

So without further ado…a few simple steps to creating your own {deliciously fabulous} pretend make-up:

Turtle puzzle and makeup 013

You will need:

  • A few different colors of nail polish {available at the dollar store}
  • Empty, almost empty…or heinously tinted eye-shadow collections you should never wear anyway so have fun destroying them…make-up containers.
  • A tooth pick
  • A gas mask {not really}

Instructions:

  • Grab your containers…the cuter, the better {I’ve actually purchased uber cute collections at the dollar store…like the ice-cream shaped lip-gloss kit shown above…with the sole intention of scraping the glittery goop out}
  • Clean them well with hot water and dish soap.  The greasier the contents…the better you will need to clean them.  Use an old tooth brush to get into little crevices.
  • Dry well.
  • Find a well-ventilated spot…preferably outside with a lemonade.
  • Select your nail polish colors and pour carefully into the openings.
  • Be sure to fill them completely as when the nail polish dries, it compacts down to about a 1/3 of what you see now.
  • If you want to get creative…swirl different colors together with a tooth pick.
  • Leave containers open and allow to dry completely {for several days}, away from curious little fingers.
  • To make nail polish bottles usable…pour out as much as possible {into containers}, and leave open to dry.  Clean the brushes thoroughly with nail polish remover.  Comb with a fine-tooth comb if necessary {to get little clumps out}.
  • You can purchase little brush sets at the dollar store {or Walmart}.
  • Present to your delighted daughter in her very own make-up box.
  • Watch her beam!

My daughter {and her little lady friends} adore playing with her make-up.  I love that there’s no mess…no stress…and no growing up any faster than necessary.

Worship and lament were never meant to cancel each Worship and lament were never meant to cancel each other out.
They can — and often do — live side by side.
And the kind of worship that rises in the midst of pain
is a costly, sacred offering God treasures.

it’s remembering who God is, even when it isn’t.
It rarely changes our circumstances,
but it always changes our perspective.

What could shift in you
if you praised God for even one thing
you’ve been tempted to complain about?

🎙️ Episode 3 of Oh, Good Grief | The Podcast is live.

In this week’s episode, The Sound of Surrender, we’re talking about what happens when we worship through the wilderness, and the way gratitude reshapes our view of God, of ourselves, and of the desert we’re walking through.

God is never careless with the pruning knife. If H God is never careless with the pruning knife.
If He allows something to fall away, we can trust His heart,
that it is ultimately for our good,
and for His glory.

Sometimes God prunes what is still alive. Not beca Sometimes God prunes what is still alive.
Not because He is cruel, but because He is kind.

It’s unbelievably hard to walk away from something that was once deeply fruitful. But when a season ends and God lifts His grace from that role, relationship, or project, lingering often hurts far more than leaving.

Trust His heart for you in the pruning. 🌱
He cuts with purpose, and always with love.

I stumbled across the word I chose and lettered fo I stumbled across the word I chose and lettered for 2023. Held. I thought it might reopen old ache. Instead, it reminded me of the deeper song beneath our hardest seasons: even in the unraveling, we were held.

And as a new year unfolds, that truth feels like a steadying hand.

Here’s to beginnings that hum with mercy...
sunrises, blankets of white snow,
seasons turning quietly toward hope.

Dream bravely.
Plan loosely.
Take the next small step.
Try again.

Be tender with yourself.
Honor the slow work of becoming.
And step into this year knowing—
you are held.
As we stand on the edge of a new year, remember th As we stand on the edge of a new year, remember this:
God doesn’t prune to prove a point;
He prunes to produce fruit.

Trust the precision and the heart
of the Master Gardener.

What felt like loss this past year
may have been His clearing away of the old
to make room for the new.
