Cake Pops {Voila!}

Big Bash Party 8.7

Remember this farewell to the conventional birthday cake {if, of course, you call sticking a little doll in a dress-shaped cake “conventional”} while also offering a sweet teaser as to what the future of our kid’s birthday cakes might hold {pun totally intended}…?

Ali's Birthday 046

Well, it’s official.

I have a new addiction: making cake pops.

Now it’s your turn to learn how to make this sorry little sheet cake…

Big Bash Party 8.7.10 030

{temporarily} look like this…

Big Bash Party 8.7.10 031

And then like these…

Big Bash Party 8.7.10 036

and finally, in a grand display of deliciousness, look like these:

Big Bash Party 8.7.10 040

Sweet.  Pretty.  Moist.  Rich.  Unique.

And the perfect serving size {that is…if you stop at one}.

And you’ll be surprised by how simple they are to make.

Ingredients are bolded…

Here’s the Scoop:

  • Bake your favorite cake mix {following the directions on the box}
  • Once cooled, crumble into a large bowl.
  • Mix in about 2/3 of a can of cream cheese frosting {hands are best}
  • Roll them into quarter-sized balls and place on a wax paper covered cookie sheet.
  • Melt your a small portion of your melting chocolate/candy coating {30 second intervals, stirring in between, until nice and runny}
  • Dip the tips of the lollipop sticks {available at Hobby Lobby} into a little chocolate and insert into cake balls, just less than half way.
  • Chill in the freezer until cold and firm {this will assist in them not jumping off the stick into your chocolate pool…always nice}.
  • Melt your chocolate/candy coating {again, warm and runny is the way to go}, quickly and as neatly as possible, dip and swirl each cake pop into the coating, tapping gently on the side of the bowl to remove excess.
  • Place in a styrofoam block {cover it in saran wrap if you’d like to reuse it} for drying.
  • If you want to add sprinkles, do it quickly while they’re still wet.  Once dry/set…you can decorate them in a million different ways: by ‘adhering’ little candies with melting chocolate, scribbling on them with edible ink markers, decorating them with a additional chocolate {try a different color} piped from a ziplock baggie {think: swirls, flowers}, or turn them into little creatures {see below}.  The options are endless.

Want to see more?

{Who in their right mind wouldn’t?}

I bought the book.  See, I told you I’m hooked.

And then go visit the brilliant, mother-of-all-cake-pops – Bakerella – for a visual banquet of all things cake pop-alicious.

Or, if you’re a visual person…check out someone giving them a whirl right here.

it’s remembering who God is, even when it isn’t.
It rarely changes our circumstances,
but it always changes our perspective.

What could shift in you
if you praised God for even one thing
you’ve been tempted to complain about?

🎙️ Episode 3 of Oh, Good Grief | The Podcast is live.

In this week’s episode, The Sound of Surrender, we’re talking about what happens when we worship through the wilderness, and the way gratitude reshapes our view of God, of ourselves, and of the desert we’re walking through.

God is never careless with the pruning knife. If H God is never careless with the pruning knife.
If He allows something to fall away, we can trust His heart,
that it is ultimately for our good,

Sometimes God prunes what is still alive. Not beca Sometimes God prunes what is still alive.
Not because He is cruel, but because He is kind.

It’s unbelievably hard to walk away from something that was once deeply fruitful. But when a season ends and God lifts His grace from that role, relationship, or project, lingering often hurts far more than leaving.

Trust His heart for you in the pruning. 🌱
He cuts with purpose, and always with love.

I stumbled across the word I chose and lettered fo I stumbled across the word I chose and lettered for 2023. Held. I thought it might reopen old ache. Instead, it reminded me of the deeper song beneath our hardest seasons: even in the unraveling, we were held.

And as a new year unfolds, that truth feels like a steadying hand.

Here’s to beginnings that hum with mercy...
sunrises, blankets of white snow,
seasons turning quietly toward hope.

Dream bravely.
Plan loosely.
Take the next small step.
Try again.

Be tender with yourself.
Honor the slow work of becoming.
And step into this year knowing—
you are held.
As we stand on the edge of a new year, remember th As we stand on the edge of a new year, remember this:
God doesn’t prune to prove a point;
He prunes to produce fruit.

Trust the precision and the heart
of the Master Gardener.

What felt like loss this past year
may have been His clearing away of the old
to make room for the new.
