Psoriases, Puke & Pretty Girls {and Other Bedtime Stories}

Mercy, it’s been a wild week.  Wild and fabulous. Dish: My hubby and I recorded a little video interview of ourselves for something ridiculously cool that we’re applying for.  It was fun.  And awkward.  And sweet.  I’d tell you about it, but then I’d have to kill you. Deadly: I poisoned my entire family the day before Easter.  Just doing… Read More

The Naughty Cookies {viewer discretion advised}

The cookies you are about to see are not intended for your grandma’s consumption.  Nor are they intended for your 5 year old’s lunch box.  Any resemblance to actual curves or derrières or bosoms, living or dead, is by no way coincidental. These sugar-infused representations of actual body parts were crafted “purely” for the purpose of bridal shower enjoyment. Or… Read More

All in a Week’s Whirl

It’s been delicious madness around here lately.  Between fun and food and friends and farting children and family {please notice the pause between children and family} and…fesign fork…I haven’t had a moment to sit down and tell you all about it in mind-numbing detail, as I am accustomed to doing.  {Clearly there’s no way to get ‘design work’ to start… Read More

We’re celebrating a little lad who’s been {heart} medicine free for over a year! {smile!} And the fact that he’s so stinkin’ cute it makes my cheeks hurt.

Pinterest: The New Crack

There once was a young mum of two Who knew she had too much to do No time to show interest In the drug known as Pinterest {that gloriously sweet visual stew}   But when it started to woo She got sucked right into the glue Now there’s passionate interest in that blissful crack: Pinterest {I’m ridiculously in love.  How… Read More

Ramblings & Us {Through the Ledford Lens}

I’ve had a deliciously full week; opportunities to connect with girlfriends I don’t get to see even remotely often enough, dinner with a wonderful friend I haven’t seen in over 7 years, an out-of-town conference with my hubby {which boasted paradigm-shift-inducing teaching by Carl Medearis…he rocked our world}, and was sprinkled with precious family time {my favorite type of “busy”}…. Baby Smooches

I’m home.  The retreat was fabulous {or at least I thought it was…and I didn’t put anyone to sleep}. Our 1st annual church harvest party was a blast…we broke in our new fire pit, took 17 people on a hayride behind my hubby’s sexy tractor, taste tested 8 different pots of chili, sipped hot cider with entirely too much whipped… Read More

The Pierced Bean, An Escape & Other Such Nonsense

Meet Bean.  The Rockstar. Sporting jeans, a tutu, and cowboy boots, and rocking the glittered hair, tattooed arm and pierced nose, she was quite the sight to see, riding along on her preschool “Little Rockstars” parade float.   She rocked!  And I was one proud mama. Speaking of piercings and pride, miss Bean got her little earlobes pierced on Saturday. … Read More

When in Saginaw…

Why not try your hand at milking a fabric cow? Or sit on a giant tongue inside a massive set of teeth. Or simply serve up some plastic ice-cream! Saginaw may be one of the most dangerous cities in the Unites States, but I do believe we’ve found a sweet spot {in the shape of a Children’s Museum}. Now that’s… Read More

Excuses, Updates and an ATW Guest Post

Contrary to what a lack of posts for almost a week may depict, I’m alive and semi-well.  Emphasis on semi. We interrupt your regularly scheduled {thoughtful} post… to bring you this {rambling} drivel: In addition to the massive quantity of squash we have poppin’ up in our veggie garden, there are a few other fabulous thing-a-ma-bobs poppin’ up around here. Before the empty tomb, there was a basin. Before Before the empty tomb,
there was a basin.

Before glory,
there was grief.

The Jesus Way is not dominance.
It’s downward mobility.
It’s loving in the face of betrayal.
Serving in the face of misunderstanding.
Choosing humility when pride would be easier.

If loving like Jesus feels costly, you’re not doing it wrong.
It has always cost something.

How's your internal monologue? Be brutally honest How's your internal monologue?
Be brutally honest here.

Are you actually kind to yourself?
Do you practice curiosity + compassion
when your emotions + responses catch you
off guard and feel oversized for the occasion?

Are you patient and gracious with your soul's
long + messy journey of growth and healing?

Are you gentle with your heart when you mess up?
Or, do you instantly shift to shaming + blaming?

Is self-loathing a constant (albeit unwanted)
companion who lingers in the corner just
waiting for an invitation to show up with
cruel words, gasoline and a match?

For many of us, if we talked to our dearest
friends the way we talk to ourselves...
well, we wouldn't have many.

Go ahead and read that again.
Let it sink in.

/ / /

Consider this a gentle reminder
to be tender with yourself.
Speak life to your own soul.
Always, always, always be kind.

We are never more like the enemy of our souls than
when we assume the role of accuser + condemner.

Catch every negative, shaming thought you have
and see if it aligns with how God sees you (and others).

If it isn't good, kind, hopeful, constructive, grace-laced and restorative, then it doesn't belong in your head + heart.

You are, after all, allowed to be both a mess and
a masterpiece...all at the very same time.

You are so loved.
Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty. But befo Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty.
But before the resurrection, there was a towel.

In John 13, just hours before the cross,
Jesus doesn’t assert power, He kneels.
He washes the feet of Peter.
He washes the feet of Judas.
He loves them to the end.

🎙️ Episode 017 | The Jesus Way is live.

What does it look like to choose love in the middle
of betrayal, grief, disagreement, and struggle?
The way of Jesus isn’t flashy.
 It’s faithful.

So very thankful for the life that came from his d So very thankful for the life
that came from his death.

May you know how wildly, wholly
and wonderfully you are loved…

“This is how much God loved the world:
He gave his Son, his one and only Son.
And this is why: so that no one need be
destroyed; by believing in him, anyone
can have a whole and lasting life.
God didn’t go to all the trouble of
sending his Son merely to point an
accusing finger, telling the world
how bad it was. He came to help,
to put the world right again.”

Boundaries are not the opposite of love. They are Boundaries are not the opposite of love.
They are often the evidence of it.

Jesus touched lepers.
He wept with friends.
He restored the broken.

But He also corrected boldly.
He withdrew intentionally.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.

You can forgive someone
without restoring immediate proximity.
You can love someone
without giving them full access to your life.

Love does not require unlimited access. In Episod Love does not require unlimited access.

In Episode 016 of Oh, Good Grief, we explore what Jesus
actually modeled when it comes to boundaries.

He loved everyone.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.
He was full of grace and truth.
He welcomed the crowds, but confided in the few.

In a world that demands access to our time, energy, and heart, this episode unpacks what it looks like to forgive without naivety, love without losing discernment, and practice grace with guardrails.

this is where I am today…
