Coconana Spiced Crumb Muffins

I haven’t a clue what to call these babies.  It’s complicated. “Divine” would be fitting. They have a heavy dose of smashed banana and shredded coconut, a kick of cinnamon and allspice…all topped off with a delectable crumb topping. So here you have it… Coconana Spiced Crumb Muffins {oooh aaaaah} Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups of […]

The Birds and The Bees…and Some Little Apple Seeds

While my hubby and I love talking to couples about the {regrettably under-talked about, within-the-context-of-the-Christian-community} topic of sex, and the undeniably crucial role it plays within a healthy marriage…we really didn’t know how – or when – to broach the subject with our kids.     We actually look forward to having “the talk” with […]

Could It Be?

I have been a busy beaver this past week…designing, proofing and tweaking my{ever-expanding} heinie off during every quiet moment I can forage.  Creating Christmas cards for other families. And I love it! Snowflakes.  Christmas Bulbs.  Bright colors.  The Eiffel Tower.  Gorgeous kids.  You know, all the standard Christmas card details. Oh, well.  Except for the […]

Sweetness

This little lady steals my heart most every day. Between listening to her lilting medleys {of Jesus Loves Me, 3 Blind Mice, Twinkle, Twinkle…finished up with…”green means go, yellow means slow and red means stop!”} and watching her patiently and tenderly love on her {often rough n’ tumble} little brother, she just woos me with […]

Wintery Morning Motivation: Baked Oatmeal

When flakes of white start to cloak the ground, our breath fogs up the window pane, and the warmth of our bed threatens to hold us hostage until the final thaw of Spring, there’s nothing like a scrumptious, warm breakfast to woo us out from underneath our covers. Need a little wintery morning motivation? Try […]

A Bugalicious {Heart} Update

Our little Bug got to see his cardiologist this morning.  The one Cricket pretends to be 99.9% of the time they play doctor. {Side note: he weighs between 27 and 29 pounds, depending which scale you plop him on, and he’s a whopping 33 inches long.  At 15.5 months old.  That’s our boy!} His doc […]

Caught Kissing

I walked into Cricket’s room yesterday afternoon to snap some photos of her dressed to the nines in tutu, shades, hat, scarf, jewelry & heels… and was met by this delightful sight instead: {he had been kissing his reflection} What can I say? He’s a rockstar.

Christmas {Desktop} Wallpaper: For You!

I’ve been itching to create my own spiffy wallpaper for months now…and seeing it’s Christmas and the sharing vibe is surging strong through the air…I finally gave it a whirl and wanted to share my first ever with you! Aren’t I sweet?  {just smile and nod} Simply select the size you want, click on the […]

Balsamic Glaze, Walmart & the Epiphany {oh my}

I just returned from a date with this hunk of scrumptious man tonight. It was most glorious. We talked about life.  expectations.  disappointments.  Work.  kids.  sex.  marriage.  How much we loved the balsamic glaze.  Friends.  The power of prayer.  Our future.  Laundry.  And how domestically inept I am.  How thankful we are for each other.  […]

Marriage

{Drooling}

I am ever-so-slightly, just a wee-little-bit, experiencing some mild “baby bug” symptoms. Okay, so I would be lying if I said my uterus didn’t cramp just a tad when I look at these beautiful baby blues. She’s completely and utterly perfectly delicious in every way.   {the fact that one of my best friends is […]

The stories we tell about ourselves often begin be The stories we tell about ourselves often begin
before we know we’re telling them...
in childhood, where identity is still forming
and belonging can feel uncertain.

This week, I sit down with my friend Tiana Hawver as she shares her story of adoption, trauma, and the ache of rejection that shaped how she saw herself for years.

This one is tender. Honest.
And deeply needed.

Joy isn’t the opposite of sorrow. It’s the opposit Joy isn’t the opposite of sorrow.
It’s the opposite of fear.

We live between Friday and Sunday,
and most of life feels like Saturday.
Tension is not failure.
It’s formation.

If you’ve been chasing happiness
and feeling weary...
this episode might steady you.

[in the Middle of the Mess]

One year ago today, I drove 90 mph to an emergency One year ago today,
I drove 90 mph to an emergency room,
wondering if I would walk into that room
as a worried wife…
or a widow.

Another valley of despair.
Another encounter with a good, faithful God.

My update from that week still holds:

"I never imagined my shaky thumbs would be typing words like stroke, NeuroTrauma ICU, or brain surgery in reference to my healthy, 44-year-old husband.
And yet…this is where we find ourselves.
We’ve been brought to our knees—again.
But, as we’ve come to understand…
our knees are a good place to be.
Nestled in the palm of God’s hand..."

///

And today, we continue to stand amazed,
at God’s kindness to us,
and at the gift of our people:
our community, our family, our friends,
who have carried us in ways we will never be able to repay.

Looking at my handsome guy today,
strong, fully recovered, and back to work since October,
apart from the six-inch scar up the back of his head,
you’d never know a massive stroke almost took his life.

So we mark today with gratitude.
I hereby dub April 23rd:
Joe’s Stroke of Grace Day ✌

///

“When you’re in over your head,
I’ll be there with you.
When you’re in rough waters,
you will not go down.
When you’re between a rock and a hard place,
it won’t be a dead end…”

Happiness is a moving target. Joy is not. In toda Happiness is a moving target.
Joy is not.

In today’s episode, I share a story about a farmer
who trusted the wrong reference point,
and plowed his entire field crooked.
Maybe the reason we’re exhausted isn’t because we’re failing.
Maybe we’ve been fixing our eyes on something that keeps moving.

This conversation isn’t about faking joy.
It’s about cultivating it, in grief, in tension,
in the hidden places where roots grow.

What if addiction isn’t the root, but the symptom? What if addiction isn’t the root,
but the symptom?

What if beneath the behavior
there’s pain that’s never been named?

This week’s conversation is about
truth, trauma, and the slow work of healing.

And the kind of redemption
only God can write.
