Meatball Mania {Lady and the Tramp Style}

My little Bean adores books.  So naturally I was delighted when, just a few weeks ago, I was able to track down a family favorite.  A series my mom’s mom read to her, and that my mom then eagerly shared with my older sister and I: The Faraway Tree Collection by Enid Blyton. Just saying […]

When in Saginaw…

Why not try your hand at milking a fabric cow? Or sit on a giant tongue inside a massive set of teeth. Or simply serve up some plastic ice-cream! Saginaw may be one of the most dangerous cities in the Unites States, but I do believe we’ve found a sweet spot {in the shape of […]

ATW Guest Post & Conference

Check out today’s guest post here: At The Well And while I’m on the topic of love, join me at the Replenish Your Soul Marriage Conference, hosted by At The Well, on Thursday, November 3rd at 1:00pm.  I’ll be speaking about one of my husband’s and my absolute favorite topics to challenge couples on…intimacy!  I […]

Fun School Printables

We’re headed into our fourth week of school for our little lass and I must admit, apart from getting to spend precious time alone with my sweet Bug, one of my favorite parts of her being in preschool is getting to pack her lunch. I love it! Because I’m easy to please like that. And […]

Swinging September Sun

As the temperature drops and the playful hours of the day get shorter, these little ones simply kick off their shoes and throw off their sweaters at the slightest hint of warmth and soak up every last minute of outdoor play. And do these babies know how to swing! {Bean, Bug, and their beloved cousin, […]

Rhubarb Sour Cream Pie

I must confess, I was a little intimidated when a friend handed me a bundle of rhubarb and my husband’s face lit up. He adores rhubarb sour cream pie.  His mama made it.  His grandma makes it.  His wife had never even laid her hands on rhubarb.  And we know how horribly things went last […]

Excuses, Updates and an ATW Guest Post

Contrary to what a lack of posts for almost a week may depict, I’m alive and semi-well.  Emphasis on semi. Our wee babes and I are all fighting colds, a sinus infection and an ear infection {nicely distributed between the three of us}.  Life is peachy!  Speaking of peaches…our little tree is dropping gorgeous, juicy […]

Oh, How He Loves!

If you know anything about me, you’ll know how easily my inner-child is delighted.  It’s rather ridiculous, actually. I don’t think she gets out much, personally. Remember the time God scribbled a heart of clouds in the sky for my wee lass.  Woah mama. Well, He did it again…{while this photo does it little justice…this […]

The stories we tell about ourselves often begin be The stories we tell about ourselves often begin
before we know we’re telling them...
in childhood, where identity is still forming
and belonging can feel uncertain.

This week, I sit down with my friend Tiana Hawver as she shares her story of adoption, trauma, and the ache of rejection that shaped how she saw herself for years.

This one is tender. Honest.
And deeply needed.

Joy isn’t the opposite of sorrow. It’s the opposit Joy isn’t the opposite of sorrow.
It’s the opposite of fear.

We live between Friday and Sunday,
and most of life feels like Saturday.
Tension is not failure.
It’s formation.

If you’ve been chasing happiness
and feeling weary...
this episode might steady you.

[in the Middle of the Mess]

One year ago today, I drove 90 mph to an emergency One year ago today,
I drove 90 mph to an emergency room,
wondering if I would walk into that room
as a worried wife…
or a widow.

Another valley of despair.
Another encounter with a good, faithful God.

My update from that week still holds:

"I never imagined my shaky thumbs would be typing words like stroke, NeuroTrauma ICU, or brain surgery in reference to my healthy, 44-year-old husband.
And yet…this is where we find ourselves.
We’ve been brought to our knees—again.
But, as we’ve come to understand…
our knees are a good place to be.
Nestled in the palm of God’s hand..."

///

And today, we continue to stand amazed,
at God’s kindness to us,
and at the gift of our people:
our community, our family, our friends,
who have carried us in ways we will never be able to repay.

Looking at my handsome guy today,
strong, fully recovered, and back to work since October,
apart from the six-inch scar up the back of his head,
you’d never know a massive stroke almost took his life.

So we mark today with gratitude.
I hereby dub April 23rd:
Joe’s Stroke of Grace Day ✌

“When you’re in over your head,
I’ll be there with you.
When you’re in rough waters,
you will not go down.
When you’re between a rock and a hard place,
it won’t be a dead end…”

Happiness is a moving target. Joy is not. In toda Happiness is a moving target.
Joy is not.

In today’s episode, I share a story about a farmer
who trusted the wrong reference point,
and plowed his entire field crooked.
Maybe the reason we’re exhausted isn’t because we’re failing.
Maybe we’ve been fixing our eyes on something that keeps moving.

This conversation isn’t about faking joy.
It’s about cultivating it, in grief, in tension,
in the hidden places where roots grow.

What if addiction isn’t the root, but the symptom? What if addiction isn’t the root,
but the symptom?

What if beneath the behavior
there’s pain that’s never been named?

This week’s conversation is about
truth, trauma, and the slow work of healing.

And the kind of redemption
only God can write.
