Mom…I’m Hungry! {Healthy, Kid-friendly Snacks}

I hear these words often.  Occasionally it’s a less civilized grunt from Bug, or simply the sound of the seal on the refrigerator door breaking, compliments of miss Bean, but without a doubt, it would seem I am raising two little loin fruit who have the uncanny ability to nibble enthusiastically throughout the day.  Which, […]

At The Well, Guest Post {Teach Them}

When we pick up gorgeous, deep red leaves from the ground during fall, or catch the intricacies of the perfect snowflake on a black-sweatered arm in the chill of winter, it is here that we cultivate an awe for our Creator in their tender hearts.  In chalk Bible stories sketched out on the driveway, alongside […]

Let’s Talk about Sex, Baby

Picture this… The kids are finally down and my sweet man walks through the door.  It’s been a long day for him, but he’s finally home in his haven, so his guard drops, and he’s recharged…and there stands his woman.  Halle-lujah! I, on the other hand, have been home in this ‘haven’ with the kids […]

Baked Zucchini Coins

If you have any lingering zucchini that hasn’t been devoured, grilled on pizza, shredded or chopped for freezer confinement…give these babes a whirl!  They’re easy, kid-friendly and quite delicious indeed! You’ll find the recipe here, at Weelicious

Food

‘Tis the Season…

…to eat obscene quantities of apples, apple-inspired dishes, to throw left-over apple cider into pancake batter, and get the low-down on gettin’ cozy between the sheets. Okay.  So there is no formal season for doing all this, it just so happens that this is what’s happening in my house right now. The hot topics on […]

Baby Smooches

I’m home.  The retreat was fabulous {or at least I thought it was…and I didn’t put anyone to sleep}. Our 1st annual church harvest party was a blast…we broke in our new fire pit, took 17 people on a hayride behind my hubby’s sexy tractor, taste tested 8 different pots of chili, sipped hot cider […]

Baked Acorn Squash with Cinnamon Apples

You may recall my love affair with squash last Fall. It was an all-consuming, heaven-touches-earth, extravagant bliss in a bowl type experience…and I’m just aching to relive it. If it hadn’t been raining and cold for the past 2 days {and if I wasn’t still wearing slippers…and if I wasn’t feeling lazy}, I’d run out […]

A Daddy’s Lens & Some {Killer} Photography Tips

When asked what we had hoped for during those first few months of pregnancy, gender wise, of course we delivered the customary, good parent response…”a healthy baby!”. But if we had been brutally honest, I would have totally whispered…I’d love a girl!  And I scored with our sweet Bean. My hubby was just thrilled with […]

The Pierced Bean, An Escape & Other Such Nonsense

Meet Bean.  The Rockstar. Sporting jeans, a tutu, and cowboy boots, and rocking the glittered hair, tattooed arm and pierced nose, she was quite the sight to see, riding along on her preschool “Little Rockstars” parade float.   She rocked!  And I was one proud mama. Speaking of piercings and pride, miss Bean got her […]

The stories we tell about ourselves often begin be The stories we tell about ourselves often begin
before we know we’re telling them...
in childhood, where identity is still forming
and belonging can feel uncertain.

This week, I sit down with my friend Tiana Hawver as she shares her story of adoption, trauma, and the ache of rejection that shaped how she saw herself for years.

This one is tender. Honest.
And deeply needed.

Joy isn’t the opposite of sorrow. It’s the opposit Joy isn’t the opposite of sorrow.
It’s the opposite of fear.

We live between Friday and Sunday,
and most of life feels like Saturday.
Tension is not failure.
It’s formation.

If you’ve been chasing happiness
and feeling weary...
this episode might steady you.

[in the Middle of the Mess]

Listen wherever you stream podcasts.
One year ago today, I drove 90 mph to an emergency One year ago today,
I drove 90 mph to an emergency room,
wondering if I would walk into that room
as a worried wife…
or a widow.

Another valley of despair.
Another encounter with a good, faithful God.

My update from that week still holds:

"I never imagined my shaky thumbs would be typing words like stroke, NeuroTrauma ICU, or brain surgery in reference to my healthy, 44-year-old husband.
And yet…this is where we find ourselves.
We’ve been brought to our knees—again.
But, as we’ve come to understand…
our knees are a good place to be.
Nestled in the palm of God’s hand..."

///

And today, we continue to stand amazed,
at God’s kindness to us,
and at the gift of our people:
our community, our family, our friends,
who have carried us in ways we will never be able to repay.

Looking at my handsome guy today,
strong, fully recovered, and back to work since October,
apart from the six-inch scar up the back of his head,
you’d never know a massive stroke almost took his life.

So we mark today with gratitude.
I hereby dub April 23rd:
Joe’s Stroke of Grace Day ✌

///

“When you’re in over your head,
I’ll be there with you.
When you’re in rough waters,
you will not go down.
When you’re between a rock and a hard place,
it won’t be a dead end…”

Happiness is a moving target. Joy is not. In toda Happiness is a moving target.
Joy is not.

In today’s episode, I share a story about a farmer
who trusted the wrong reference point,
and plowed his entire field crooked.
Maybe the reason we’re exhausted isn’t because we’re failing.
Maybe we’ve been fixing our eyes on something that keeps moving.

This conversation isn’t about faking joy.
It’s about cultivating it, in grief, in tension,
in the hidden places where roots grow.

What if addiction isn’t the root, but the symptom? What if addiction isn’t the root,
but the symptom?

What if beneath the behavior
there’s pain that’s never been named?

This week’s conversation is about
truth, trauma, and the slow work of healing.

And the kind of redemption
only God can write.
