Make Love, Amidst War

Marriage is a divine conspiracy. God takes two outrageously different people – from gender, background & upbringing, strengths & weaknesses, to likes & dislikes, personality & temperament – and throws them together in a magnificently wild adventure; a “love story set in the midst of war”. “Our mutual brokenness plays off each other so perfectly that it is frightening.  It’s… Read More

Say It in Style

Here are some spiffy shirts I designed a while back, for a sweet friend I’ve never met {isn’t it amazing how you can feel so connected to someone you’ve never met?!?}, inspired by the passage in Mark {10:7-9} where Jesus explains, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two… Read More

and as socially challenged as ever! Well, not really. We did in fact leave our beautiful little room at the Weathervane Inn {which you’ll see more pictures of soon.  Whether you want to or not}. Some highlights from our delicious 51 hours away together include: 4 solid hours of car time without so much as a second of “The Wheels… Read More

The Story of Us

If you’ve sat in our living room and looked out our bay window, you have most likely spotted them; 3 exquisitely unique sculptures that tell the story of “us”. Meticulously crafted from chucks of black soapstone and serpentine, and gathered from 3 completely different places at different stages of our journey, these sculptures depict the progression of our lives. A… Read More

Marital Advice from a Wood Sprite

A friend gave us a little painted sculpture of German Wood Sprites as a house warming gift. I smiled and did the courteous “thank you” routine, quietly dismissing it as something more “cutesy” than I’m into, and set about {mentally} finding a home for it.  The patch of grass out back…behind the man-cave, maybe? I had no clue – in… Read More

Shower Talk

I do a lot of thinking and praying and processing in the shower.  And on the loo.  But seeing you didn’t care to know the latter, we’ll just hop back to the shower part. In my effort to get more intentional about prayer – more specifically, praying for people other than myself and my immediate needs {so selfless, eh?} –… Read More

Smitty + Smile = Smitten {or Something}

8 years ago today, I was working a Michael W. Smith/Lincoln Brewster concert at the Fowlerville Fair. I was 21.  Single.  And heavily under construction. My life had been a train wreck.  With a failed engagement, and more baggage than the Metro Airport could dream of processing, under my belt, I was working through some painful consequences for foolish decisions… Read More

Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty. But befo Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty.
But before the resurrection, there was a towel.

In John 13, just hours before the cross,
Jesus doesn’t assert power, He kneels.
He washes the feet of Peter.
He washes the feet of Judas.
He loves them to the end.

🎙️ Episode 017 | The Jesus Way is live.

What does it look like to choose love in the middle
of betrayal, grief, disagreement, and struggle?
The way of Jesus isn’t flashy.
 It’s faithful.

So very thankful for the life that came from his d So very thankful for the life
that came from his death.

May you know how wildly, wholly
and wonderfully you are loved…

“This is how much God loved the world:
He gave his Son, his one and only Son.
And this is why: so that no one need be
destroyed; by believing in him, anyone
can have a whole and lasting life.
God didn’t go to all the trouble of
sending his Son merely to point an
accusing finger, telling the world
how bad it was. He came to help,
to put the world right again.”

Boundaries are not the opposite of love. They are Boundaries are not the opposite of love.
They are often the evidence of it.

Jesus touched lepers.
He wept with friends.
He restored the broken.

But He also corrected boldly.
He withdrew intentionally.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.

You can forgive someone
without restoring immediate proximity.
You can love someone
without giving them full access to your life.

Love does not require unlimited access. In Episod Love does not require unlimited access.

In Episode 016 of Oh, Good Grief, we explore what Jesus
actually modeled when it comes to boundaries.

He loved everyone.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.
He was full of grace and truth.
He welcomed the crowds, but confided in the few.

In a world that demands access to our time, energy, and heart, this episode unpacks what it looks like to forgive without naivety, love without losing discernment, and practice grace with guardrails.

Healing after betrayal isn’t linear. It’s messy. Healing after betrayal isn’t linear.

It’s messy.
It’s exhausting.
And sometimes it feels impossible.

In this conversation, Lisa Devine shares what it actually looked like to rebuild a marriage after infidelity: the boundaries, the brutal honesty, the forgiveness that had to be chosen again and again.

But more than anything,
it’s a story about the quiet ways God shows up
when everything feels shattered.
