Mantacular Homemade Granola Bars {approved by Manly Men}

Mantacular Homemade Granola Bars {approved by Manly Men}

My hubby has been away for the past five days riding his 4-wheeler in the mountains of Kentucky.  I have no doubt that there’s been an ungodly amount of farting, burping, grunting and other blatant displays of manhood going on down in those parts. It’s a little scary what can happen when 8 grown men assemble in the hills where… Read More

Easy {Sugar Free, All Natural} CocoJava Truffles

You are in for a treat, people.  I’ve got the dish on a decadent chocolate fix that’ll make your palate happy, not to mention your conscience! Along with all the incredible health benefits of coconut oil (just google it), cocoa is associated with decreased blood pressure, improved blood vessel health, and improved cholesterol levels, while dates – which are what… Read More

Beet This : Pretty Pink Buttercream Frosting

Our sweet Bean turned six this week, so we threw a little bash.  It was her first party not celebrating her little brother’s birthday too {and madness that inevitably ensues} and I’m quite certain I was more excited than she was.  I’m talking small and sweet here…paper lanterns, polka dots, cherry blossoms, little sandwiches…the whole kit and caboodle. I.was.in.heaven! I… Read More

Lemon Cilantro Chickpea Quinoa Salad

The summer heat is finally settling in (we’ve had some cold spells here in Michigan), farmer’s markets are in full swing, and…well, citrus goes with everything. That was my sad attempt at casual poetry.  Thank you, thank you, I’m here till Thursday. I posted this recipe last year, after sharing it at a progressive dinner (where I was asked for… Read More

Firstly, congrats to Caitlin & Erica, winners of the Pumpkin & Parsnip giveaway.  Thanks to fumbly little fingers, there were two winners.  And a 25% off coupon for all those who participated.  Lucky you! Secondly, while we’ve discovered we’re not dog people, or cat people for that matter…we are now officially chicken people. I used to think this type of… Read More

Meal Planning {Printables}

I’ve had a few friends comment on the cute weekly meal plan I have framed on top of my fridge and my response is always the same…”yes!!  I plan to get those printables on the blog…soonish!”. And, wouldn’cha know it…today is officially “soonish”.  It’s only taken me 6 months to deliver. I realized that I hadn’t made them available yet… Read More

Honey Whole Wheat Bread with Molasses

Honey Whole Wheat Bread with Molasses

We’ve been making our own bread for a few years now, sans bread machine, and with all the different recipes we’ve tried and tweaked, this is – hands down – our favorite.  It has fast become our go-to sandwich bread. Now, it’s no beer bread, but it’s delish none the less {and it’s far more versatile}. It is moist, soft,… Read More

Growing Green {& Coming Clean}

It’s been 31 days since I had refined sugar, and let me just tell ya…I feel phenomenal!! My skin is clearer, my head is less foggy {far fewer headaches}, my energy level is more steady, and my jeans are loser {whoot whoot!}.  It helps that along with cutting out the garbage, we’ve tossed in a heaping dose of the good… Read More

All Natural Chocolate Truffles

We’re gathering to celebrate my baby sister’s 23 years of life today. It just so happens she’s also cutting refined sugar out of her diet, which meant Project: Sugar-Free Dessert was a mission I was game to take on.  Usually this is our big sister’s department, as she makes the most breath-taking cakes and treats, exquisite for both the palate… Read More

The Basics of Healthy Eating {with Printable Encouragement Cards}

We have about 25 women who have joined forces to encourage each other {via a facebook group} as we work to cut refined sugars out of our diets in 2013. And it’s awesome! The journey is always more fun together.  The shared wisdom, chin-lifting & recipe ideas are just beginning to take off and I’m excited to see how we’ll… Read More

Butternut Squash & Kale Pizza

Butternut Squash & Kale Pizza

There is no question about my love affair with squash.  I just dig it.  Summer.  Acorn.  Zucchini.  I could live without the stringy spaghetti variety, in all honesty, but my all time favorite remains Butternut. It just makes my palate happy. I am, on the other hand, trying very hard to get along with kale.  It’s a powerhouse nutritionally, which… Read More

Happy {Homemade} Christmas

It occurred to me last month, as Christmas crept sneakily toward us, that my desire to actually attempt some of the smashing homespun gift ideas I’d been pinning with passion, combined with my astounding ability to procrastinate, were a match made in hades. And then I promptly forgot that profound thought and continued on my way.  As is common for… Read More

Before the empty tomb, there was a basin. Before Before the empty tomb,
there was a basin.

Before glory,
there was grief.

The Jesus Way is not dominance.
It’s downward mobility.
It’s loving in the face of betrayal.
Serving in the face of misunderstanding.
Choosing humility when pride would be easier.

If loving like Jesus feels costly, you’re not doing it wrong.
It has always cost something.

How's your internal monologue? Be brutally honest How's your internal monologue?
Be brutally honest here.

Are you actually kind to yourself?
Do you practice curiosity + compassion
when your emotions + responses catch you
off guard and feel oversized for the occasion?

Are you patient and gracious with your soul's
long + messy journey of growth and healing?

Are you gentle with your heart when you mess up?
Or, do you instantly shift to shaming + blaming?

Is self-loathing a constant (albeit unwanted)
companion who lingers in the corner just
waiting for an invitation to show up with
cruel words, gasoline and a match?

For many of us, if we talked to our dearest
friends the way we talk to ourselves...
well, we wouldn't have many.

Go ahead and read that again.
Let it sink in.

/ / /

Consider this a gentle reminder
to be tender with yourself.
Speak life to your own soul.
Always, always, always be kind.

We are never more like the enemy of our souls than
when we assume the role of accuser + condemner.

Catch every negative, shaming thought you have
and see if it aligns with how God sees you (and others).

If it isn't good, kind, hopeful, constructive, grace-laced and restorative, then it doesn't belong in your head + heart.

You are, after all, allowed to be both a mess and
a masterpiece...all at the very same time.

You are so loved.
Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty. But befo Easter reminds us that the tomb is empty.
But before the resurrection, there was a towel.

In John 13, just hours before the cross,
Jesus doesn’t assert power, He kneels.
He washes the feet of Peter.
He washes the feet of Judas.
He loves them to the end.

🎙️ Episode 017 | The Jesus Way is live.

What does it look like to choose love in the middle
of betrayal, grief, disagreement, and struggle?
The way of Jesus isn’t flashy.
 It’s faithful.

So very thankful for the life that came from his d So very thankful for the life
that came from his death.

May you know how wildly, wholly
and wonderfully you are loved…

“This is how much God loved the world:
He gave his Son, his one and only Son.
And this is why: so that no one need be
destroyed; by believing in him, anyone
can have a whole and lasting life.
God didn’t go to all the trouble of
sending his Son merely to point an
accusing finger, telling the world
how bad it was. He came to help,
to put the world right again.”

Boundaries are not the opposite of love. They are Boundaries are not the opposite of love.
They are often the evidence of it.

Jesus touched lepers.
He wept with friends.
He restored the broken.

But He also corrected boldly.
He withdrew intentionally.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.

You can forgive someone
without restoring immediate proximity.
You can love someone
without giving them full access to your life.

Love does not require unlimited access. In Episod Love does not require unlimited access.

In Episode 016 of Oh, Good Grief, we explore what Jesus
actually modeled when it comes to boundaries.

He loved everyone.
He did not entrust Himself to everyone.
He was full of grace and truth.
He welcomed the crowds, but confided in the few.

In a world that demands access to our time, energy, and heart, this episode unpacks what it looks like to forgive without naivety, love without losing discernment, and practice grace with guardrails.
