Faraway Friends & June Desktop Wallpaper

Ever totally fall in love with someone’s heart, develop the sweetest friendship over time…and never actually meet face-to-face?

I love those unique heart connections that are made in unlikely ways, triggered by an encouraging email or a business-related phone call from across the miles.  It’s those sweet moments that weave two hearts together without groundwork needing to be established, and sometimes without bodies ever needing to physically meet.

Not that the tangible collision of worlds wouldn’t be glorious, but it’s awfully rare when it does.

friendshipI’ve had several ‘encounters’ like this over the past few years.

Like that beautiful woman whose “my husband rocks” shirts I fell in love with in the marriage magazine…I emailed her to say, “I love what you’ve done…thank you for celebrating marriage!”, which led to me designing a few shirts for her and a delightful new friendship blossoming.  We shared marriage and ‘momma heart’ stories over the phone and I promised to one day design her first baby announcement.  6 years later, I got to do just that…and that baby girl is the picture of perfection and a sweet reminder of God’s faithfulness.

Or like that wonderful woman from Texas who found me during my first year of business, still ripe with child one, attempting to throw designs together in Publisher.  Yeah, I know.  Publisher.  That was 7 years ago. I’ve designed many, many things for her business since (as my design software improved), and she’s encouraged and challenged me as a young entrepreneur along the way.  We had the sweetest treat of meeting in the flesh last February when she flew me out to speak at a women’s conference.  It was bliss to put a face with the voice, and to seal the friendship with a squeeze.

Then there’s the precious woman who stumbled upon my blog a few years ago while looking for ‘the right’ designer to create ‘the right’ memorial card for her little brother’s funeral.  Our hearts instantly connected during this tragic time as we worked together to craft the perfect card to express his style and personality.  She has since stepped into the wonderful world of custom design (and she’s rocking it!).  I saw this gorgeous photo (below) that she’d taken of the wildflowers her son gave her…and fell in love.

So when she offered it up for me to use, I couldn’t resist.

Welcome June…we’re tickled to have you (almost) here.  I’m especially thrilled for the arrival of this 6th month, in part because I get to celebrate my 33rd birthday (and the thirties have proven to be a most fantastic decade so far!!), but mostly because we’re celebrating the release of my very first book.  You can get your hands on it here and here, and we’re hoping to get it into bookstores soon, so stay tuned!

*You can enter to win 1 of 5 copies being given away on Goodreads (through June 12), and you can enter to win a copy over at 4 Little Fergusons (through May 31).

Speaking of those little Fergusons…there’s another beautiful heart connection without a face collision.  Just love Tonya’s sweet heart!

it’s remembering who God is, even when it isn’t.

you’ve been tempted to complain about?

In this week’s episode, The Sound of Surrender, we’re talking about what happens when we worship through the wilderness, and the way gratitude reshapes our view of God, of ourselves, and of the desert we’re walking through.

God is never careless with the pruning knife. If H God is never careless with the pruning knife.

Sometimes God prunes what is still alive. Not beca Sometimes God prunes what is still alive.
Not because He is cruel, but because He is kind.

It’s unbelievably hard to walk away from something that was once deeply fruitful. But when a season ends and God lifts His grace from that role, relationship, or project, lingering often hurts far more than leaving.

Trust His heart for you in the pruning. 🌱
He cuts with purpose, and always with love.

I stumbled across the word I chose and lettered fo I stumbled across the word I chose and lettered for 2023. Held. I thought it might reopen old ache. Instead, it reminded me of the deeper song beneath our hardest seasons: even in the unraveling, we were held.

And as a new year unfolds, that truth feels like a steadying hand.

Here’s to beginnings that hum with mercy...
sunrises, blankets of white snow,
seasons turning quietly toward hope.

Dream bravely.
Plan loosely.
Take the next small step.
Try again.

Be tender with yourself.
Honor the slow work of becoming.
And step into this year knowing—
you are held.
As we stand on the edge of a new year, remember th As we stand on the edge of a new year, remember this:
God doesn’t prune to prove a point;
He prunes to produce fruit.

Trust the precision and the heart
of the Master Gardener.

What felt like loss this past year
may have been His clearing away of the old
to make room for the new.
