100 Days to Healthy

Are you ready for this?H100

I so totally, completely and utterly am!

100 days, starting tomorrow and ending the day before Thanksgiving, without sugar, junk food, and countless cups of hot caffeinated bliss.  Don’t get me wrong…there will be caffeinated bliss …just in moderation.  But seeing I seem completely incapable of doing sugary foods in moderation, they’re getting chopped.  Completely.

100 days of making a concerted effort to get more physically active {be it walking…taking the kids for a bike ride…hula hooping {don’t laugh}…or simply playing more rambunctiously with my kids.

I will be trying my darndest to fill up on veggies and fruit rather than making my usual beeline for the french bread.  Oh, how I adore carbs.  I live on carbs.  Carbs are my friend.  See what I mean?  I have a problem.  Being a passionate follower of the “no carb left behind” diet shows quite distinctly in my ever-expanding derriere.  It’s time for change.  But instead of saying no to carbs, I’m simply boycotting the more refined side of the show and incorporating more of what we already eat: whole wheat varieties and other complex carbs.  Filling up on the good, so there’s less room for the less healthy stuff.

While the combination of pregnancy or nursing {for the past 4 years straight} has done atrocious {and permanent} things to my body and skin {and “the girls”}, the stunning effects my loin-fruit have had on my heart far outweigh those factors.  But… the truth remains: I long to feel comfortable in my skin, to feel good in my clothes, and yes…even to feel confident in my birthday suit {and seeing confidence has a huge effect on how frequently I want to “wear” this suit, my husband surely appreciates this effort}.

I’m excited.  I need this in so many ways.  I crave the self-control and discipline I feel every time I do something like this.  The practice of setting aside a dedicated portion of time to focus on self-discipline/health/spiritual growth has – without fail – brought about {exciting} change in my life.  I hesitate to label it a “fast” when I haven’t felt a distinct spiritual urge to do this, but seeing I do firmly believe we’re spiritual beings made in the image of an awesome Creator, it most certainly is a form of fasting.

Yes.  100 is a totally random number of days during a completely random time of the year.  But I’m quirky like that, and I love a challenge.  I do ‘extreme’ pretty well.  So there you have it!

Ruth.  Rebecca.  Lisa.  3 gals who will be joining me on this adventure {in whatever capacity they feel led; 100 days of giving up something that’s unhealthy, or 100 days of incorporating something that is healthy}.  Want to join us?  Let me know via the comments section and we’ll lock shields and forge on together.  Then you can simply check back in on the progress by clicking the little green 100 day button at the far right of the menu bar.  See it?

Bring on healthy.

But.  In celebration of my last day ingesting sugar…I took the kiddos out for mini ice-cream cones; in order of appearance: Bug’s, Mine, Cricket’s.

My baby sister and I sat in the hot tub last night chatting about our goals and aspirations for these 100 days.  We’re pumped.  We’re motivated.  We’re thankful for the accountability we have in each other…and are ready to change the world.

Or at least our eating habits and waistlines.  But it’s a start.

What if success has become the safest place you've What if success has become the safest place you've ever known?

This week on Oh, Good Grief, we're exploring Enneagram Type Three: The Achiever...the gifts of ambition and excellence, the hidden burden of performance, and the freedom that comes when we stop confusing what we do with who we are.

If you've ever struggled to slow down, feared failure, or quietly wondered whether you'd still be enough without your accomplishments, this conversation is for you.

Because your identity isn't something you build.
It's something you receive.

If you're a Two, my prayer is that this week you'l If you're a Two, my prayer is that this week you'll discover the freedom of receiving as deeply as you've spent your life giving.

That you'll find the courage to let someone care for you, to believe your needs matter, and to rest in the quiet assurance that you have never had to earn the love God has already poured over you.

May you serve from fullness, not emptiness, and may you remember that before you were ever helpful, you were already beloved.
Are you always the one checking in, showing up, re Are you always the one checking in, showing up,
remembering the details, and making sure everyone else is okay?

Maybe you've wondered why asking for help feels so much harder than offering it.

This week on Oh, Good Grief, we're exploring the Enneagram Type Two (The Helper or Befriender)...how our greatest gifts can become survival strategies, why people-pleasing often has deeper roots than we realize, and how the Gospel gently reminds us that we don't have to earn the love we've already been given.

If you've ever believed your value comes from what you do for others,
I hope this conversation reminds you of something better:

You are not loved because you serve. You serve because you are loved.

What if the Enneagram isn't about discovering your What if the Enneagram isn't about discovering your personality...
but uncovering your survival strategy, and finding freedom and wholeness.

Today we're kicking off a summer series on Oh, Good Grief exploring the Enneagram through the lens of grief, trauma, healing, and the Gospel.

This isn't a series about labels or stereotypes. It's about understanding the stories we've believed, the coping strategies we've developed, and the invitation God extends to each of us to live in greater freedom.

Whether you've known your number for years or you're not sure what all the Enneagram fuss is about, I hope you'll join me for the journey.

The world tells us to be productive. Jesus often i The world tells us to be productive.
Jesus often invited people to be present.

This week's episode, inspired by Theo of Golden,
is about slowing down long enough to notice the birdsong, the feather on the path, the hurting friend, the image of God in another person.

Because sometimes the most sacred work isn't accomplishing.
It's paying attention.

Because people are rarely changed by being impress Because people are rarely changed by being impressed,
they are changed by being seen.

Perhaps the most Christlike thing you can do this week
is simply pay attention. To God. To beauty.
To the person in front of you.

The world has enough people rushing through it.
Be the kind of person who notices.

I finished a book recently, and instead of closing I finished a book recently,
and instead of closing the cover and moving on,
I found myself carrying it around in my heart.

Not just because of the story.
But because of the main character.

Theo of Golden left me asking a question I can't shake:
What kind of person am I becoming?

The kind who hurries?
Or the kind who notices?
The kind who is quick to fix?
Or the kind who simply stays?

This week's episode is a reflection on the sacred art of noticing,
the beauty in ordinary places, the gold hidden in people,
and the Christlike practice of being fully present.

The enemy may wound. But he doesn't get to write t The enemy may wound.
But he doesn't get to write the ending.

Morgan's story includes abuse, betrayal, fear, and years of healing.

Yet today she spends her life loving vulnerable children, opening her home to foster kids, and building a family rooted in grace.

What could have broken her became
the very place God planted compassion.
That's redemption.
Not erasing the wound.
Not pretending it didn't happen.

But allowing God to grow something beautiful from what was meant to destroy.
